Why Meal Prep?

1. Saves Time

A couple of hours in the kitchen on Sunday can save you countless hours during the week. For us, Sunday and Wednesdays is family meal-prepping day! After running morning errands and hitting the grocery store, we crank up some music and get to work.

2. Encourages Healthy Eating

Prepping meals in advance helps us avoid unhealthy takeout or frozen options, especially during busy evenings filled with after-school activities. Since we love spending time outdoors, having dinners prepped and ready allows us to enjoy our evenings without worrying about cooking or resorting to fast food.

3. Family Bonding: Cooking as a Family

Meal prepping has become a cherished family tradition. My daughter, Alyssa, has been a part of the process since we started. She began with simple tasks like cutting vegetables and now takes the lead in choosing recipes and even creating her own! Watching her confidence grow in the kitchen—and seeing her little happy dance when she enjoys a meal she helped make—is truly one of my favorite moments.

4. Budget-Friendly

Cooking in bulk reduces waste and maximizes the use of staple ingredients. For example, we eat a lot of chicken, and buying boneless, skinless chicken breasts in bulk is a huge money-saver. Prepping multiple chicken-based meals at once not only cuts costs but also reduces cleanup time.

My Must-Haves for Meal Prepping

1. Glass Containers

Durable, eco-friendly, and perfect for reheating, glass containers are a meal prep essential. We are currently in the prosses of replacing all of our plastic meal prep containers, with glass meal prep contain. We use clear meal prep containers to easily identify meals in the fridge. Our favorite containers are the Komuee 30-oz glass meal prep containers—they’re oven, microwave, freezer, and dishwasher safe. Plus, the size is just right for everyone in the family!

2. Sheet Pans and Crock-Pots

Sheet Pans: Ideal for recipes like beef fajitas, where everything cooks together on one pan. Quick, easy, and minimal cleanup!

Crock-Pots: Our weekly prep isn’t complete without at least one Crock-Pot recipe. I start this first as we’re unpacking groceries. From hearty soups to shredded chicken, slow cooker meals are lifesavers for busy weeks. Alyssa’s favorite? A simple beef stew, which she also loves to pack for lunch!

3. Air Fryer

Air fryers are perfect for small batches of vegetables and quick sides. I love Brussels sprouts, but they’re not a family favorite—so I use the air fryer to make just enough for myself, seasoned to perfection. It’s a quick, healthier option that’s incredibly versatile.

4. Oven

The oven is a meal prep powerhouse, perfect for cooking larger portions and multitasking. It’s my go-to for roasting trays of vegetables, baking protein-packed chicken breasts, or even making a big batch of sweet potatoes to last the week. I love how I can season everything, pop it in the oven, and let it do its magic while I tackle other tasks. Bonus: sheet pan meals are a lifesaver for quick dinners—just toss everything on one pan, roast, and enjoy. The oven’s versatility makes it a must-have tool for meal prepping delicious, balanced meals in bulk!
