Looking for an affordable getaway that combines history, adventure, and family fun? Our recent four-day trip to San Antonio, Texas, was all that and more! From exploring the iconic Alamo to the thrills of Six Flags Fiesta Texas and the natural beauty of the Natural Bridge Caverns, this trip had something for everyone. Here’s our itinerary, complete with tips to help you plan your own unforgettable adventure!
We chose the Davy Crockett Hotel for its perfect location and historical charm. It is just short walk away from the Alamo and the River Walk, this hotel offered the ideal blend of modern convenience and a deep connection to San Antonio’s historical heritage.
The family-friendly atmosphere, cozy accommodations, and delicious on-site dining made it a great base for our adventures. Plus, being so close to the River Walk meant we could easily explore nearby shops, restaurants, and attractions without needing transportation.
Tip: Book early to snag deals on this popular hotel, especially during peak travel seasons.
We spent the last two days at the Holiday In Express due to it’s location and price. My husband really didn’t want to spend all day at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and then drive 45 minutes to the hotel. This hotel is only 10 minutes from Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and only a 30 minute drive to the Natural Caverns.
Our trip began with a visit to the Alamo, one of the most iconic historical landmarks in Texas. Walking through the grounds and going into the church we felt a connection to the past.
Interactive Exhibits: The Alamo Visitor Center and Museum featured fascinating artifacts, including Santa Anna’s sword and personal belongings of the defenders.
Family Lessons: Our daughter was inspired by stories of courage, which sparked meaningful conversations about history and values.
Phil Collins’ Collection: Did you know the legendary musician donated an extensive collection of Alamo artifacts? It was a delightful surprise!
Why Visit: The Alamo offers more than a history lesson—it’s an emotional journey that fosters appreciation for freedom and perseverance.
Day two was all about quirky fun! Located near the Alamo, Ripley’s attractions offered hours of entertainment.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not: A museum filled with oddities and Alyssa’s favorite souvenir—a two-headed cow plush!
Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks: Perfect for snapping fun photos with lifelike celebrity figures.
Ripleys-Illusion Lab: Interactive displays and mind-bending optical illusions kept us all engaged!
Our third day was packed with adrenaline at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. From towering roller coasters to splashy water rides, there was something for everyone.
Favorite Rides: Goliath, Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger (Alyssa’s top pick!), and the Boomerang.
Street Shows: Pop-up performances added extra magic to the day.
Pro Tip: Purchase tickets online and if possible get the flash pass in advance to save money and avoid long lines.
We wrapped up our trip with a visit to the stunning Natural Bridge Caverns, a must-see destination for nature and adventure lovers.
Hidden Wonders Tour: The underground formations were amazing to see. The fact that this formation was solely made by water is truly amazing to me!
Gem & Fossil Mining: Alyssa loved uncovering her own treasures! Its like panning for gold and gems. So much fun.
Twisted Trails Zip Rails & Rope Course: A thrilling challenge for adventure-seekers. Navigate this 60FT high adventure rope course if you dare. This outdoor rope course takes adventure to a new level!
Book Early: Secure discounted rates on hotels and attractions.
Split Stays: Consider staying closer to specific attractions to save money and on commuting time.
Pack Snacks: Use your hotel’s fridge and microwave to prepare quick meals.
Look for Bundled Deals: Many attractions offer discounted combo tickets.
